Being a fan of Andy Samberg’s work (Lettuce, his work as Blizzy B), I was really excited to watch Hot Rod. While I enjoyed it the first time through, the more I think about some of the scenes, the more I appreciate their brilliance!
“Was that because of us?” + “Things started off super positive, then it just got crazy” + John Farnham’s You’re the Voice = Comedic gold
The Europe soundtrack, the whispy stache, “may your hammer be mighty,” the punch-kick at 1:35, “is that a throwing star?!”…

However, I’m not so sure about the new Nissan Cube.
I love me some boxy-looking cars, but there’s something about the asymmetric back window that screams, “No, seriously, we’re young and hip and with it. Kids these days love the wacky imbalanced look.” If I remember correctly, the Japanese version of the Cube I saw last year had normal windows. And I really liked that version.
i jizzed in my pants.
J – Oh dude. It’s strange that Hot Rod was cleaner than most of his digital short stuff… The Lonely Island guys are so good at parodying different styles of music (e.g., 90s boy bands, cheesy 80s synthy new wave, etc.) but so foul at the same time… Sometimes I feel like they use crudeness as a crutch, which is too bad because most of the time I don’t think they have to rely on it… just turning-into-an-old-man two cents :)
as you know, this is one of my favorite movies of all time. i don’t like re-watching most movies, even ones i liked, but i can watch hot rod over and over again. cool beans!
Rich – I’m with you – I find Hot Rod to be funnier the more I think about it. As I was watching through YouTube clips, I was on the verge of tears. Sometimes I’ll start laughing just from thinking about some of the lines (“I’ve been drinking green tea all day…”)
