According to Apartment Therapy, the iPhone goes back… waaay back.

Well, at least the concept of having a touchscreen phone was being developed by Apple back in 1983. You know, when She Blinded Me with Science, True, and Far From Over were burning up the charts.  I love that it’s corded!  (Actually, this phone looks more like a precursor to this thingy Verizon is pushing these days)

Not to sound like too much of an Apple evangelist (I still have to use a PC for work, after all), but Apple has often led the way in design.  Even now, think of all the iSomething gadgets and doohickeys you see out there.  More compelling evidence, perhaps, is the Twentieth Anniversary Mac that was released back in 1997 but looks strangely now:
