I wanted to pick up on a thread I started yesterday on my posterous account (I know, a tumblr and a posterous? Microblogging overkill!)…

The music nerd in me (combined with my undergrad marketing background) always notices when indie-ish bands are featured in commercials.  While I suppose lots of the folks who are working on Madison Avenue are either in my age cohort or younger and, therefore, probably have similar tastes in music to me, I am often confused (and a little put off) by their choices in background music for ads.

Francis Chan is joining the Flannel crew!

Flannel, the production team behind the Nooma series (featuring Rob Bell), is partnering with Francis Chan to produce a new DVD series called We Are Church.

Francis is a dynamic communicator.  Last year, we took a group of college students up to the Passion Los Angeles event, and Francis’ words spoke deeply into our lives.  His passion is contagious, and his communication style manages to inspire without bashing a person over the head (Lord knows, I’ve seen enough of that in my day).

I was deeply disappointed to learn (via Eugene Cho’s blog) that Zondervan will no longer continue to publish the TNIV translation of the Bible. I have been using the TNIV in my personal Bible reading and in preaching & teaching in our church community – I am sad both to see the TNIV discontinued and the way in which Zondervan is handling it.

I brought my car in for an oil change this morning and, after blocking the usual upsell attempts (No, I’m not interested in adding $300 in unnecessary services, even if they’re ‘highly recommended’), I was thinking a bit about cars and car culture during my drive down to the office.

Now, I’ve never been much of a car guy — twin cam, dual overhead, shift on the fly combustible edison, vin diesel car-speak has never really spoken to me.  However, being a Southern Californian for going on five years now, it’s virtually impossible to ignore the car culture here.  Maybe it’s because we spend so much time in our cars, or perhaps it’s their unnaturally long car-lives (for real, on the East Coast, cars don’t live forever the way they do out here), but folks out here have a strong attachment to their automobiles.
