I was hesitant to watch Last Comic Standing the other night because the Korean American woman made it to the semifinal round [update: apparently, the finals now – great] and her material is just awful. I was all excited to see her perform when the show first started, because Asian faces on television are so scarce. But now I wish she would just go away.

Her routine is like watching a six-year old Asian kid following around another Asian kid on the playground, yelling, “Me Chinese, me play joke” and “Why don’t you talk American good?” for three and half minutes, while all their non-Asian classmates watch, point and laugh. But less funny, if that’s even possible.

At the gracious invitation of Jim Hancock and Marko, this week I was able to sit in on (and, hopefully, contribute something meaningful to) a small gathering to put some framework to the Big Room gatherings at DCLA 09.

It was a joy and privilege to sit with such a talented, experienced group of youth ministry veterans, thinkers and leaders. Being able to dive into, as Marko put it, the stories of God and the story of God for two days together was life-giving and life-stirring.

On a side note, Marko accused me of blogging too infrequently (although I suspect many readers have just cried out, No! Please!). Perhaps these couple of intensive days will kickstart my thinking (or, if I’m lucky, my heart).

Director Jamie Moffett is making a film called The Ordinary Radicals which documents the Jesus for President tour, featuring authors Shane Claiborne and Chris Haw [h/t: Dan Ra]. Here is a brief description from their site:

My friend Richard is a librarian — yes, a real-life librarian — out in Illinois. I love reading his reflections about building and resourcing his local community. He is passionate, talented and has a wonderful sense of humor.

Recently, he posted about a person who was looking for a “video rental store but for books.”

Yikes.

Is this what we’ve come to? Are we such a Netflixed and TiVo’d culture that we have forgotten the old brick and mortar local library?

But enough hand-wringing… more fail!

Typically, I am a bit wary of “Christian humor” which, sadly, often ends up being some unholy (ironic!) combination of derivative, corny, uncomfortable and/or offensive.

That being said, this video clip did make me grin.
