Phil -- Thanks for your thoughtful comments here. I really appreciate your insight, especially your personal connection with both Jud & Mike. I have a couple of friends here in Southern California who are close friends with Mike and they give the same account as you -- that both Mike & Jud are solid guys.
* * *
I know this has been a difficult conversation for many people, but I am glad for the ways in which God is opening eyes & hearts to issues that have gone unnoticed for too long. I just read the link to Jonathan's blog that you sent, and I think that is a great example of this awakening. May God continue to shape us & guide us into becoming His people completely.

Daniel:

Thanks so much for your insightful postings - I am a follower of Jud & Mike's work, and Jud is my Senior Pastor - so I have a personal connection to both.

Both men are very honorable and have done a great deal for the community and for sharing the word of God. They have also been very influential in my coming to faith.

Truthfully, I think it's more of a continuation with well-stated Zondervan race-sensitive political faux-pas (or insensitivity issues) that need to be addressed. I too am surprised that with a past record of racial insensitivity, that the publishing editor did not raise a flag.

Mike and Jud are wonderful people, with wonderful families and wonderful businesses, churches and networks of friends. Both men are also extremely busy & as seen by the reaction to Mike's initial response, it is understood why Mike and Jud are praying for guidance and patience on how to approach the situation & not providing an emotion-filled knee-jerk reaction to the hundreds of blogs being issued.

And furthermore, I'm sure that the negative connotation as interpreted in this issue of DVCA is non-intentional and I'm almost certain that all the people connected with Jud and Mike (as listed above) feel empathy with the offended, at the discovery of the unintended offense.

Truthfully, I was not personally aware of how the Asian American community felt they were being unjustly portrayed in in Christianity. I am sorry for my ignorance - and I'll have to read more into this topic and what Prof. Rah has brought to light - it's scary to see & I'd like to be able to help bridge gaps, as we are all part of the same family here - we are all the body.

Thank you pastor Daniel for this opportunity to post. I look forward to reading more from you in the future.

If you haven't already, please visit a blog posting by Jonathan Brink. This is a well thought-out posting in defense of the book (not in the negligence of the publisher to edit the artwork and/or content).
